Building the Next Generation of Local Food Markets

Marchewka Mobilna is a place-based local food market in Kraków that combines online and physical sales to connect farmers and food producers directly with consumers. Organised by IsoTech as a consortium of seven local farmers, it aims to create a fairer, more efficient, and more resilient alternative to conventional food supply chains.

Rather than introducing another intermediary between producers and consumers, Marchewka Mobilna is built on the principle that digital technology combined with organisationa innovation can replace many of the functions traditionally performed by wholesalers, distributors, and retail platforms. This allows producers to retain ownership of customer relationships, pricing, and branding while benefiting from shared services and collective action.

Powered by the APPETIT Platform

Marchewka Mobilna is enabled by the APPETIT platform, a digital ecosystem designed to support direct sales and collaborative logistics for local food producers.

Through APPETIT, participating farmers and food producers can:

  • market their products directly to consumers;

  • process customer orders;

  • transact and invoice customers directly;

  • coordinate shared logistics and order fulfilment;

  • participate in collective marketing activities;

  • access automation tools that reduce administrative and operational costs.

APPETIT effectively provides the infrastructure that farmers need to operate professionally at scale while avoiding dependence on conventional intermediaries.

A New Model for Local Food Distribution

Marchewka Mobilna serves as one of the commercial and distribution channels available to participating producers. It demonstrates how local food markets can combine:

  • digital commerce,

  • physical marketplaces,

  • collection points,

  • shared delivery systems,

  • and community engagement.

The initiative has established a collection and aggregation centre at Piast Market, one of Kraków's thirteen municipal markets, contributing to the City's efforts to revitalise traditional marketplaces and strengthen local food economies.

By combining digital and physical infrastructure, Marchewka Mobilna helps municipal markets evolve into modern community hubs that support both face-to-face and online commerce.

Connecting Local Markets Through GeniHub

Marchewka Mobilna is also piloting integration with GeniHub, opening the possibility of connecting multiple place-based local food markets into a broader network.

This development will allow producers to manage multiple sales channels through a shared digital environment, including:

  • direct-to-consumer sales,

  • local market sales,

  • cooperative distribution channels,

  • institutional sales,

  • a logistics marketplace,

  • and business-to-business (B2B) customers.

As a result, farmers and food producers will be able to manage their commercial activities across several marketplaces and customer segments while maintaining a single operational workflow.

Pioneering Social and Community Investment

Marchewka Mobilna is also exploring innovative approaches to financing local food infrastructure. The initiative pioneered new forms of community-oriented financing through a Series A bond issue, demonstrating how local food systems can attract investment while maintaining their social and regional character.

This approach reflects IsoTech's commitment to developing sustainable business models that combine economic viability with positive social and environmental impact.

IsoTech's Long-Term Vision

For IsoTech, Marchewka Mobilna is more than a local market. It is a proof of concept for a scalable model of food system transformation.

The vision is to develop Marchewka Mobilna into a sustainable commercial enterprise while creating a blueprint that can be replicated in other cities and regions. Supported by APPETIT and future integrations such as GeniHub, the model can enable the creation of many Marchewka-like local food markets across Poland and Europe.

In this vision, each local market remains rooted in its community and local producers, while benefiting from shared digital infrastructure, common standards, collaborative logistics, and access to wider networks.

Marchewka Mobilna demonstrates how digital platforms, cooperative business models, and community-based marketplaces can work together to create a scalable, intermediary-light food system that strengthens local economies, supports producers, and gives consumers greater access to local food.
